560 TA question

Per my earlier post about my shifter binding and not being able to get it back to neutral - I took the advice and adjusted my TA linkage.

Hard to say for sure if it fixed the binding problem - but I drove it around and was unable to get it to bind - so a good sign.

That's the good news -

the worrying part is the amount of wear in the system (I think)

The linkage rod from the ta handle over to the toggle part that internally engages and disengages the ta clutch is WAY too long. (following IT manual adjustment instructions)

In the manual - the rod looks perfectly straight - but mine is bent, quite a bit - I assume to shorten it - as the clevis is already turned in as far as it can go.

Is it possible the TA clutch is so worn that I've got a huge amount of slack to take up? Could clutch wear work out to be several inches of length in this rod? or perhaps it's the wrong rod?

Wish I had pictures - it'd be easier to describe.

Again it all seems to be working ok now -but I'd like to hear opinions.

I have seen those ta clutch fingers wear so much in the pins that when you adjust them the way you want them to be, the fingers bottom out and make a racket. You would have to look at that clutch to tell. It is possible to cheat and adjust the individual fingers .

thanks Pete - I figured there had to be something else in there wearing out besides a clutch plate.

I may split the tractor over the winter and poke around.

... no real reason to do it yet, the ta works fine. But - bugs me that it's so far off the rod needs to be bent like that.

We'll see how ambitious I am when the temperature start falling :)
