Baffling 886 electrical question

Alright, back in summer my 886 started acting up. Every rare once in awhile, the a/c blower wouldn't come on with the key. Cycle a few times and it would come back. Week or so later, the key sometimes wouldn't crank it, then after some cycling it would. Been sitting in the shed now for over a month, went to get it out, same deal, cycle several times to get blower to come on and finally will. Will NOT bump the starter, no matter how many times I cycle the key. Relay in the fuse compartment in the cab below steering column picks up every time I turn the key. Brand new batteries, starter new within last 18 months and never gave any problem prior to this issue. If you know the 86 series at all, the starter isn't exactly friendly to access. I'm beginning to think the issue is the key switch assembly itself, or could that relay still be the issue?

"Relay in the fuse compartment in the cab below steering column picks up every time I turn the key."

Just because the accessory relay "picks up" (as you say) doesn't mean it is actually making contact inside and passing current.

Check with a test light.

Once that is replaced and working correctly, "follow the power" from the "S" terminal on the ignition switch through any and all neutral safety or clutch switches there may be, and see if power is actually getting to the starter solenoid.

if it is like the 1486, there is a clutch safety switch on the firewall directly behind the clutch pedal. you access it from outside with the side of the hood off iirc. the terminal plug was corroded on his. a little clean up and it worked fine. not sure if yours is the same deal.

I will check that. I remember now bypassing that a couple years ago until I could get a replacement switch. May have loose ends or corroded since the replacement.
