Transmission is making a clacking noise :

Other symptoms,,
1 - times when I went to shift between gears the rear wheels have just locked,, I could move through the shifting pattern and if I let the clutch out it acted like the internals of the trans were locked,, I put it in first and rocked the tractor and she finally started to roll and then let me shift through the gears,,

2 - transmission makes a clacking noise,, in all gears,,

3 - when I put gear oil on it drips out a small hole between the transmission and the right bull gear unit,,

I understand I may need to take the transmission apart,,

can I just take off the pto at the rear and slide all gears out to repair that way .. :) or..
any advice accepted,,
PS would it seem as if I could replace the entire transmission for a swapped out unit..?

What kind of tractor are you asking about? An 8N Ford, AC-B, Farmall-C or Belarus or a Zetor. Makes a great deal of difference you know. If I were a guessing man,I'd say a main shaft bearing, but it'd hard to to tell when you don't know what you are working on.
