You may be better off to use a toggle switch for the ignition and a starter button for starting the engine. Hal

Your starter gear may not be retracting, check it for a broken spring. Hal

the spindle will retract its on a cork screw , when i turn it on off position it comes down , when you start it it engages the starter in the run and start position , it should not engage in run position. new silonoid new ign john deere says starters fine was tested . no one has heard of this before . can it be the pto sending juice through something , no clue here thank you for your response

Sounds like your switch keeps sending battery voltage to your starter after the engine starts.
Can you post a picture of the starter switch? Is there a run & start position on the starter switch? Hal

I think the problem is in your switch so when your engine starts and is in the run position there shouldn't be any battery voltage feeding the starter. Hal
