To elaborate on my previous posting:
Often the ignition button will not give any action or sound. Repeated pushing usually gets action however. Also sometimes the tractor will completely cut out like the key was turned off. Finally the battery runs down with little usage even though the generator is charging.
So I'm guessing there is a short in the key-switch. Is there a simple way a novice fixer can confirm this? Appreciate your assistance.

Use a volt meter or test lite to see if there's voltage on your switch at the terminal that feeds battery voltage to your coil when the switch is in the start position. Wiggle the switch to see if you lose voltage on that that terminal. Sounds like you need to replace the switch. I bought a multimeter at Radio Shack for about $20.00. They come in handy around the house too. Set it on DC volts, Hal
