JCB 3c Mk2 - Rear left leg will not go down

The rear left leg on my JCB 3c Nk2 will not go down though you can see it tries to move when the lever is operated. It is not leaking oil on the leg and the right operates OK. Could it be some foreign matter obstructing the flow of oil? if so, how can it be cured?

David, most stabalizer cyls have locking valves in the lines. Look for an aluminium block with both lines running through it. They require pressure on one side of the cyl to release oil from the other side. If your cyl is loading up and trying to move it might not be unloading. Be cautious working on this problem. Let machine set for a few hours before loosening any lines and then watch out for escaping pressure oil. Wear heavy gloves and heavy goggles, oil under pressure can go through your skin and kill you.

Hi Bob, I attach 2 photos, one just shows the affected leg and the second is a view taken on the top of the leg where the 2 hydraulic hoses are connected to the leg. Is it at this point that I have to disconnect the hoses as I don't see anywhere else I can get access to the hoses, nor do I see any aluminium block that you refer to. Regards, David

David, if you have the lines disconnected can you pry the leg down a bit? I think if you have a locking valve it will be towards the control valve from those hoses but I don't know, just an idea.

That model JCB does not have safety check valves on the stabilizers,the most likely cause is like you said an obstruction in the line,that usually happens at where the hoses attach to the control valve,trace the hose that retracts the rod into the cylinder back to the control valve,with the engine stopped and the pressure relieved remove the hose from the adapter,take the adapter off and make sure its clear,put the adapter back,put the end of the hose into a container,pull out the engine stop so the engine won't start,hold the lever to push the leg down,turn the engine over a few turns,idea been if there is anything in the hose it will get blown out,what happens is if any seal debris is in the system it can get through all the plumbing but it can't get through those small bore adapters and blocks the oil return from the cylinder.
