Ford df7114 Backhoe goes in reverse everytime when shifting lever on steering column back. For it to go in foward the lever has to be shifted foward 2,3,4 times back and foward. is there an adjustment for this? Thanks,kb 1950 ford 8n 1985 ford 555a backhoe |

| Under the machine inside the clutch housing , you will find a small steel plate bolted to the bottom.. Take the plate off and you will find a small steel ine with a plug in it.. This is the operating pressure of the directional reverser.. Install a hose and gauge into the line fitting.. This will tell you the transmission pressure .. With stabilizers down so rear wheels are off the ground and backhoe down too,I like to put jack stands under the back of the backhoe just for giggles.... someone can run the reverser while you check pressures.. If forward is much lower than reverse , that indicates a leak in the forward clutch circuit..Disassembly of the machine is needed if forward pressures are too low.... Loader blocked in full raised position , stands under loader front support.. Unbolt engine with axle attached . Be sure to use wedges between the axle and front support so the engine doesn't flip to the side..I use a good floor jack to roll the engine out..Sounds easy , but it's a little more work than what I described.. |

| Does the lever go all the way into forward ?? There is a blocker valve on top of the transmission front cover that won't allow a shift if the engine speed is too high..Keeps "reverse to drive slams" to a minimum..If this isn't the case.... The forward clutch sealing rings might be on their way out.. |
