China talk apparently out of bounds. I liked your post, though. You should have mentioned NorTracs or some other Chink tractor, that would have made it legal!

Yep, guess I should have specified that I was looking at adds for the NEW John Deere tractors and impliments that showed a whole train load of them. Then there were ads for the NEW Mcormick Deering tractors, NEW MF tractors, NEW IH tractors, and so on. There was even one article that mentioned that the Ford combines they had started selling were in fact made in Germany, by Claas. Actually it was just really cool to look back at all of the NEW, yet OLD machines as they origionally looked. Not to mention how just reading the ads, and articles, reflected the 'simple' times that seem so far in the past in our 'modern' society.

That said, I wondered what happened to my post until I looked in the archives and found the replies. Seems there was a good conversation starting until someone mentioned global warming and got slammed for it by several other replies. Guess someone got their feelings hurt and what could have been a really good discussion got relegated to the archives as a result. That sucks, but such is life.

I guess though, too, when someone, like me, makes a post like that that's saying 'You were told, but you didn't listen', probably tends to step on a few toes too. Unfortunately having only read a few of the articles in the magazines, and old newspapers I have come upon and saved over the years from the 40's through the 70's, the whole China situation is only the tip of the iceburge, so to speak. It's amazing what the writers from way back then, when looking back at historic trends, their own 'modern day' and then forcasting things into the future, could actually turn out to be so right as to how things actually are right now.

As an adendum, I read an article in a paper from a few months before President Kennedy was shot. It was telling about how there had been some sort of discrepency in the way the executive power was supposed to transfer should something happen to the President, and how they had just rewritten things (or whatever they do) and had it all approved (by Congress?) It's been a few years since I read it so the exact details are a bit hazy, but that's the gist of of the situation. Had it not been done when it was, who knows what might have happened when Kennedy died........

History is so interesting when you take the time to look back at it....Saddly so many of us are now forced to live so much in the present, just to insure we have a future, it's scary. Like I said in the deleted post though, you have to look back some time at the past, otherwise it's way too often overlooked, and forgotten..... and when forgotten, it's way to easy to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.......
