How do you figure out were the psi coming from
If the radatior is blowing all the water out
I've been fighting this old cat 1961 17A
It's plenty strong but won't run cool
New radatior
Cleaned out heat exchanger
Rebult water pump
New complete heads an gaskets
It had a pony motor put on a starter
New turbo and exhaust
All this with in a year she was running good
But stated getting hot more an more
Figured it was pre com r head gasket
Head gasket was blown replaced w/everything
New got the hook up but it didn't fix it
I'm thinking of making it into a steam dozer
 
Are you getting coolant in the oil too? On some engines you can take the pan off, presurize the radiator and watch for coolant leaking down from the cylinders.
You could make an adapter to go into the injector hole and connect to an air compressor. Roll the engine over to TDC compression stroke, pressurize the cylinder and listen for where the air comes out.
 
Probably crazy to mention given all you said you've done, but what about the thermostat? Without a thermostat in place, or with the thermostat stuck wide open, many engines will have enough flow going through the radiator to cause water to come out if the cap is off. Even if it's just stuck wide open the lack of restriction in the system will allow the water to flow too fast and not release enough ehat into the radiator and that alone will cause one to heat. So, if you haven't checked or changed it already I'd definately try that.

Anothetr thing to check on the older machines is the pressure regulator on the radiator. Look just to one side of the fill port for a round disc with several bolts in it. If you take it off there should be a spring, a disc, and another thin plate that acts as a seat under it. Make sure that everything is clean and free to move, that the disc and sealing surface are clean, etc, etc. Too make sure the sealing disc on the main radiator cap is good too so it seals. Without these items in place and working properly the radiator will not build any pressure internally, and, like a standard radiator without a pressure cap, it will not cool like it's supposed to.

I read your post below and the seal rings on the liners will allow coolant into the oil, but they have nothing to do with any kind of compression/ pressure getting into the cooling system. In other words the o-rings on the liners shouldn't be an issue unless you start seeing coolant in your oil.

Sounds like you've done and checked alot of stuff already, but those are a few things I would check first if called out to a customers machine, hope they help.
 
Yep, those can tend to cause a bit of overheating too. Funny thing, had a customer with a newer JD excavator that was having some heating issues last summer. He'd always call from a job in the middle of nowhere when it happened and ask what I thought the problem was. Tried troubeshooting over the phone having him check various things as he was trying to prevent having to prevent me coming so far to get to him ((((ie save money when things were really tight already)))). All of that really got no where, as you'd expect, but finally winter hit and the problem went away. It finally started on him this past summer and all but shut him down. I wasn't avaialble to go look at it at the time so he got someone local, who was recommended by someone at the job site, to come out. The machine had a serpentine belt on it and according to what I was told when the guy checked it, it was tight, and had never made any sound at all. The guy he called installed a new belt, blew out the radiator (something I had already had the guy do long ago) and the heating problem stopped.

I've never heard of a serpentine belt slipping enough to cause the fan or water pumpo to slow down and never make a sound. I have seen something similar on this same customers T190 Bobcat after he replaced two alternators and then brought it to me with a charging problem. Batteries checked OK, alternator checked OK, and the V belt driving the alternaor was tight and made no noise, but was a bit aged and cracked. Replaced the alternator belt and he's had no problems since. In the end the problem isn't always obvious and I guess you learn something new everyday.
 
Another serpentine belt type problem I had was a 92 Dodge CTD, with the old belt when the A/C compressor clutch came on the belt would STOP. Engine would keep running fine no smoke and no noise. I replaced the belt and tensioner and everything is happy now. The first symptoms were engine starting to get hot and A/C not working.

9U,some things you need to understand, from what I get from your post.
The carbon ring is very good, that is correct.
It means that your rings are not letting any oil past them. Now getting to your major problem the constant blowing gaskets.
Take the old gasket and look where it was blown, you may have more than one spot.
Then look at the liner tops in those areas for any signs of the carbon washed off the liners and pistins.
Then polish the tops of the liners and block clean.
Each liner must be clamped down with an H bar to 60Lb Ft. and the height of it's flange above the block measured with a dial indicator in 4 places around the flange. Projection should be 0.004" to 0.008" with each liner's measurement with in 0.002".
You most likely have a low liner, you can get the piston and rods out the side but if you take the pan off!!! The oil pump and ballancer comes with it!!!! The ballancer weights must be timed upon assembley. ""any piston on TDC and the weights at the bottom.""
Use one of the 1/2" mounting bolts to lock weights untill the gears are engaged, then be sure to take it out.
When you get it apart new liners might not do it, liner seats might need cutting and shimming but will get into that then.
