hitachi 120-2 vs. -3

What's the difference between the -2 and -3 machines? I thought mine was a series 3, the book says series 3, but it turns out that the pump coupler is the (much more expensive) series 2 configuration.
The machine has the purple paint stripe, ELLE electronic load sensing sticker and four-button I L E P throttle setup. No serial number on the cab.

Don't know the difference between the two 120 versions. That said I've got a customer with a Hitachi excavator and the serial number on it isn't on the cab bur rather stamped into the upper part of the frame right between the base mounts of the boom lift cylinders. On his we had to clean the area off really good and scratch off soem paint for it to show up, but we eventually found it.

I've heard they stamp it there also, but I never looked hard enough. BTW, sent the pump in and they said I was better off to just take a rebuilt off the shelf. Hope to get the time this weekend to get it going again.

Might depend on where it was assembled. I know a guy with a Komatsu that was told he has a better machine because his was built in Japan and there aren't too many of them in N. America. His model, I think a 230 has 270 pumps in it and is faster than N. American assembled machines.
