Im am putting my Crawler back together this weekend. While removing the head, I wrecked a few head studs. I was wondering if I could use bolts instead of studs? Or is that not recomended?

To answer your question, no, replacing studs with bolts isn't usually recommended. In your case, based on what you've said, you'd also be mixing bolts with studs, and that is definately not recommended.... unless it was engineered that way from the factory.

I have often had your problem and often used a bolt instead of a stud when the top threads let go due to rust or some other factor,on some engines that uses studs there can be a course thread on the bottom and a fine thread on top, then it is not advisable to use a bolt, but if the threads are the same top and bottom the torque or more to the point the pinch factor will be the same so I would not hesitate to use a bolt.

9/16 course on bottom, fine on top. I was able to come up with a full set. I ended up pulling some out of the massey 55 I had sittin here for parts.
