Help - D5 value question

Looking at a late 70"s Cat D5 with ROPS and 4-way blade - engine had oil problem on #6 and was rebuilt 50 hrs ago. Undercarriage ok, but not great. Seems to run good, clutches OK. Wondering about value and things to look for - anything unique to a D5?

Was looking at 73 AC HD11B ROPS, winch, straight blade for $3500 - runs OK, clutches ok, u/c fair, but tracks worn out and both adjusters and winch have problems so it will take a lot of work and several dollars to get it in condition that the Cat is in.

Bought a 88 D5 B 50 % bottom rops, sweeps and good blade. Middle Tenn ..two weeks ago $ 12,500
The market for thirty year old crawlers with STREIGHT blade is weak.. Everone wants 6 way blade.

I just looked at Machinery Trader some D5 (not D5B) advertised as low as $8200, several in the 10,000-11,000-12,000 range 3 or 4 at 14-16k and some in the 20k range. Mostly 1967-73 models.

Any weak areas or distinctions by year that would make one model more desirable?

It seems like $20k would be way high and maybe 8200 too low - without seeing it and knowing history. I'm thinking $10-12k?

Anyone else want to chime in?

The D5's are pretty good tractors....sort of a carry on of the D6 "U" series.
For myself I'd look for the models with the 3306 engine that came about between 71 & 73 depending on model. Nothing really wrong with the D333c's either.
Check the final drives & final drive cases closely. These are single reduction drives and if abused this is where it can show up.
