R2 Cat- detergent or non and kerosene carb adjustments

Forum members,

I have two questions. Should I use 30 grade non detergent or detergent oil in the '41 R2 Cat? It has excellent oil pressure and runs seems to have excellent compression due the fact that my cousin always put oil on the pistons when stored for long periods of time.
Second question- I did carb work on the Cat this winter and figured out it was being run way too rich for the past 60 years. I reset the high speed jet to the correct setting and it runs smoother than ever. The question is if the Cat was run on kerosene would the carb have been set to a richer setting to accommodate the alternate fuel? I have an original '41 operator's manual and it does not give that info. Just curious!

That R2 has a pressurized and filtered oil system I would think right ? I was under the impression that non detergent oil allows contaminants to settle out, into a sump, vs detergent suspending contaminants for filtration, (my basic understanding ). That said I always thought non detergent oil was still useful for oil bath air breathers, and say the 2 cylinder starting engine like on my D7, as it has 2 sumps, that you can clean after draining the oil when servicing it. However I am not sure how detergent oils work where non detergent oils used to be specified or more realistically, its all there was in that era. I have used 30 wt detergent in the starting engine, but changed it so frequently, not sure if it mattered.
