Using Oliver OC-4?

I found an Oliver OC-4 with loader for sale. Also found another with the Anderson blade. I have some dirt I need to move around in the back yard. The dirt is already loose. Would this machine do the job or is it too light and too old? (Hope someone does not tell me I am too light and too old some day) After I get the dirt where I want it, the machine would be cleaned up and used for operating tractor shows, where they can be seen in action.

I've got an OC4 dozer and OC4 loader. Yes they move dirt. It all depends on how fast you need to get it done and IF the crawler will hold together. Most engine parts are very hard to find for OC4s since those Hercules three-bangers are uncommon. Some have steering clutches and some do not. I tend to use for loading/moving dirt only when the ground is too rough or slippery for a wheel loader. Wheel loader works much faster, and a 4WD skid-steer even faster yet. OC4 is geared a bit better in low gear then its predessor, the OC3/HG series. Still fast though unless it has the optional aux. transmission. OC4 was avaiable with a two-speed "Slo-Lo" with high/low range, or a reverser called the "Travel Reverser."

We bought a used OC-46, very well used.With finding parts for it wasn't hard for us as Zimmermans in PA had everything we needed to rebuild the dozer. It moved alot of our dirt and tree's,but you have to take your time. It will get the job done,and on the plus side you still have it after the job is done and it's done to your specifications.LJD helped us thru ours in the rebuilding process with unlimited answers to problems we encountered, the OC 46 is a nice little working machine,were keeping ours.

Lou - hope you don't think I was talking bad about the OC4. I love the little crawlers. My comments about the machine "holding together" were not about the design. More about the condition I see most are in. Crawlers tend to get hammered to death and few things fixed properly. It would be rare to come across any 50 year old crawler that was "ready to use" and in great shape - unless paying big dollars.

I knew you didn't mean any disrespect to our machine or us,I've read exactly what you wrote to him and agree fully, just thought I'd give him our input, as much as I could.Even around here finding any type of " ready to use" equipment without paying an arm and leg is just the normal of what you describe around your part of the country,seems the higher the price the more reasons I can find for not buying it.If he could get it fairly cheap, it might be worth it.So no hurt feelings on this end, and as always,
