We are cleaning out my grandparents barn and came acrossed this old cat d4 crawler. I want to know more about it. Does anybody know where we can find info on this? And maybe what year it is. We think it is early 40"s but that is just going on some pictures that we saw of other crawlers. Also we are going to try to sell it for parts....I know it isn"t much but we thought maybe somebody could use it instead of us scraping it.

Appears to be a HT4 (early track loader) 1947 to 1955 when the 955's came out. Basically an early 7U D4 with loader attached.....most of it long gone. Still seems to be a few usable parts left, along with a well worn 5-roller undercarriage

I see an ad in Antique Power quite often for a place in Iowa that deals in old Caterpillar parts. They are always looking for such items. Number listed is 641 982 4207. Might try them.

Find the serial # and the model and year can be determined. Its located on a tag to the upper left of the drawbar on the rear, and also on the left side of the diesel just above the pony motor clutch control.

Fuel tank on the side dates it in the 40's. My brother has a 1944 D4 with the tank on the side like that one.

Thanks a lot guys for all of the help. Does anybody know what it would be worth?? Obviously we aren't looking to make a fortune on it but we just want a fair price. We did know that it was a early model of a 955 because my grandpa bought it for parts for his 955. The numbers do match up to the year that you all were talking about as well. Thanks so far for all of the help.....
