JD 544 Loader Steering Issue

JD 544 loader - the steering wheel will occasionally spin right or left without reason - very dangerous. Not only is it dangerous to jerk right or left while driving forward, but the wheel spins so fast that it would easily break your hand or fingers if you're not palming the wheel. Sny ideas as to what would cause this?

The steering motor is bad. Sometimes they can be rebuilt, but if they are worn too bad it is better to replace the whole thing.

Air in the steering system could be a major contributing factor in jerky , uncontrolable steering.. In the tech manual , there is a procedure for bleeding the steering valve on the 544 , 544-A , 544-B series loaders..Those steering valves are very touchy..A stuck needle valve or worn adjustment screws , plates will cause problems..Also check those steering cylinders for internal leakage too..
