Streering clutch

I have an International 500C crawler tractor that is hard to turn right. Last year It would not turn left and wound up changing the right streeing clutch. Now it turns left fine but will not turn right very good. I have to put in 1st gear and bring the rpms up to get to turn to the right. I have checked and rechecked the adjustments and ajusted them as close as I can. Can any body tell me what to do the solve the issue, Thanks Darrel

sounds like the left steering clutches are slipping. Were the right steering clutches very worn when you replaced them last year?
are your brake linkages adjusted up properly?

If it takes extra effort to turn right, it sounds to me like the right clutch is only partially releasing, and some discs are still engaged. When the clutch was out last, was it disassembled and repaired or just swapped out with another unit? I suspect if you have a release mechanism issue there would be something different in how the lever travel feels compared to how it was before this started. Is it a wet clutch with hydraulic steering?

The whole clutch was replaced last fall and they are dry clutch. Your right about one thing. I don't think the clutch is releasing like it should. However all the adjustments are as close to the book as I could get them.

try running the machine forward with both levers pulled back just enough to release the clutches but not enough to apply the brakes--you will probably have to remove the seat to observe the linkages.if the machine travels to the left the right clutch may not be releasing--the machine should not move.

Hi dpenzic, Have tried what you suggested and the tractor never stopes moving forward until the brakes on both sides stop it. It does not turn right or left before this happens. Does this mean the both clutches are not releasing?

yes-probably both clutches are somewhat dragging--
perhaps you should adjust up the clutch linkages so you get more of a release before the brake linkage starts to activate and see what that does.
