Case 1450 crawler loader

I"m rebuilding the engine in my Case 1450 loader (504BDT Case engine). All clearances meet spec except the rod side clearance. The spec is 0.007" to 0.016". My rod clearances range from 0.020" to 0.050". Since the rod journal spec is 1.9775" to 2.0025" (0.025" range), it seems to me that the rod side clearance spec is bunk. If I had rods designed at the narrow clearance and the rod journal is wide, theoretically I could have 0.007 + 0.025 = 0.032" clearance. Am I seeing this right? Any thoughts?

For some reason some crankshafts seem to wear the "cheeks" of the rod journals & 504 Case seems to be one of them. We have had to have some of these 504 crankshaft welded up & reground to get back into specs. Yours doesn't seem too bad. I've seen worse. I'm not sure how much you could get by with?
