Who made the d188?

Thanks for the replies. I guess that does away with all the references I've seen about the IH 188D!
I didn't post it in the CASE forum 'cause I needed a wider audience in case it was made by Detroit, Cummins, Cat or whatever.

It's a G188D in a Case 310G which places it anywhere from '64 to '70 (can't read the SN plate yet)but I'm satisfied with CASE as the mfg. especially as "Case Manufacturing" is stamped on the engine SN plate.

Skid: Well, maybe..IH does list a 4cyl D188, 3.668x4.391, which I assume is a diesel...
Case lists a G188 3.813x4.125, and a G188B and a G188D with same b/s (the Case list also shows these as 188, 188B and 188D)...here I assume G=gasoline/LPG and the "B" and "D" are variations...
I don't follow Case or IH so not familiar with their terminology...
Many (most?) people aren't that precise when talking about engines, and could easily refer to the IH "D188" as a "188D", meaning "the 188 diesel" without realizing it could be confused with the Case engines...

Hey, Bud, no wonder there was confusion, too many 188's! That's another reason why I considered it possible that they were all produced by a third party. I don't know about the "G" prefix meaning gasoline, especially as the model number ends in "D" (diesel) in my case (G188D). "G" may be a production run sequence similar to the dozer model "310G".
I also have a Case 310E dozer with a Ford gas 4cyl engine.
