kumatsu pc 25

Hi we just bought a little pc 25. All the other excavators are JD controls or have a pattern switch. We use JD controls and want to get the pc 25 switched from Cat controls.

Its just the boom and stick backwards. Can we just swap hoses where they come out of the valve or at the hose join where they switch from tube to hose. Can any dammage be done this way?
Thanks for any advice, Grant

The pilot control lines run directly from the control handle/valve to the main valve so swapping the lines should accomplish what your wanting done with no problem. In fact on the machies that are equipped with dual pattern controls that's all the valving does. It just does it in a cental location vs changing every line individually.

It was simplier just changing the boom and stick cylinder hoses on the outside of the machine. The joins were all side by side. The valve body was accesable but tracing hoses to joysticks would have been a pain. Anyway its all working fine now and Dad's happy - thats the main thing. Grant

Ok, I misunderstood what you were talking about the first time when you were asking about changing the hoses. I assumed you were just talking about changing the pilot controls, but changing the actual lines going to the cylinders might not cause any actual problems but it could cause problems syncronizing the motions of the boom. That said, I don't know exactly how the smaller excavators like you've got are designed, but the boom cylinder circuit on most all of the larger excavators is different than the circuits going to the other functions. I say different in that they typically merge pump flows when lifting the boom, use regeretive oil from other circuits, etc all in order to increase the flow to the cylinders causing the boom to cycle faster. On your machine none of those things may be at issue here, but it would still pay to call and talk to someone in service at your local dealer and find out for sure. If you can't get anyone to help you feel free to get back with me with model and serial number, and I'll be glad to call and talk to one of the service guys I know at my local dealer. My email is open.

I was wondering about that, but it doesn't seem to be an isssue. The cycling speed and strength of lift seem the same in the JD format vs the Cat which it was in (all though the opperators - Dad and I were pretty shaky).

I will drop by the Komatsu dealer later in the week and ask - the worst case would be to trace the pilot lines and switch them.

We will run it for a few days anyway and see how it is. We are digging out slabs 3'X3' of a cranberry field and replanting them in the holes and dammaged area of another field. We are digging them out with our PC-60 and using the PC-25 to scrape a bit of soil over them and pack the slabs down in the good field. If we need something bigger, we have our EX 120 sitting on the dyke to push out piles of sawdust and soil.

I'll update with the progress later in the week.
Thanks, Grant
