How much improved are C's or D's over B's? Are the 201 three cylinders a little under powered compared to the D's 256 engine? This one I'm going to look at is a 4wd with extendable hoe. Thanks for any input......Ron

I can't tell you all of the differences between the three but I can say this. Until he retired some years back I had a customer that had a 555B that I had done a little work on for him over the years. He had had the thing forever and only 'lost' it when it got stolen. I never worked on it's replacement so I can't remeber whether it was a C or a D. What I do remember was he never liked the replacement and I heard numerous times how he would trade two of them to have the old B model back.

Like I said maybe just a matter of prefference for one man but he always seemed adamant that the B was the better machine for some unnamed reason.

I've run ford backhoes for 26 years. At work we currently have a 1995 555D and a new B95 new holland backhoe. We've had 2-555B over the years. never have run anything else I'd say they are pretty tough old hoes. Our 555D has the standard hoe on it it has around 6500 hrs.on it we bought it new. only ever ajusted the valves on the engine that's it does'nt use oil still has 80% of the orignal hydralic hose's on it.for being 16 years old it's still a pretty reliable old hoe.As with any equipment depends how the operator took care of it

When going to look at the C or D model look closely at the rear where the hoe bolts to the tractor frame, they are bad to work loose then break then twist things up a little. We have had aaa C 2wd and a D4wd ex hoe, only problems we had the one mentioned , had to stay on top radiator cleaning or they will run warm on a hot day working non stop, and very sorry brakes. This being said Ive had case jd and cat of comparable sizes and prefere the ford hands down,we work our machines hard and the ford all around was most dependable. I now have a B95 2008 model and just love it.
