TD-14A Engine Clutch

I have the clutch out and in a machine shop. When threading the adjusting ring into the clutch back plate, is there any way to measure how far to screw it in so that the adjustment might be in the ball park after installation? It would be nice to have it close when testing the handle the first time after installation! Thanks!

ok maybe this will help you quoted from blue ribbon service training course manual #5 page 49
assemble the clutch by reversing the disassembly procedure. to facilitae final adjustment of the clutch, screw in the adjusting ring (14) until the distance from the front face of the pressure plate (44) to the front face of the back plate (41) is 1 5/32".

I'll find out today if that works, as the clutch is going back in! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks! Vic

t's Sunday & the clutch is back in. I tested it a bit in the driveway & it stays engaged. We set it as close as we could get it to the specs you gave us and after installation we had to tighten it about 3/4 of a turn. After driving it I'll leave it as is. I'm interested in that "blue ribbon service training course manual you talked about. Is that something that can be obtained? Thanks for your help! Vic

i have that book and a parts book that i bought of ebay when i thought the guy up the road was planning on selling me his td 14. he thought it was to much to call me and instead hauled it 4 hr to another guy. needless to say that was not the first time he failed to call me back but was the last time. if i could find an easy way to scan and send a cd would be happy to send it for the cost of reproducing it.

Could you estimate the cost (make a phone call) if you took the manual to a local Kinko's, Staples or whatever you have in the area & let them copy it double-sided? That might be an easy way to go! Vic
