Case 310 dozer concerns

Looked at a 310 Case dozer, six way blade inside frame mount.

Concerns: 1.Dozer frame to tractor side frame rails are loose, missing bolts, and replaced bolts. Can they ever be tightened, etc, to hold again?

2. Differential steering, when traveling straight ahead seemed to be noisy in the differential/pinion/ring gear area. Is that normal?

Tracks and ten rollers seemed good. A little blue smoke on startup but not when running. Head has been off and either reworked or replaced (different paint). Not welded up or beat up. New brake bands. Main clutch seems strong. Wants $5000.

Any red flags?

I think the "diff" in those machines can be a problem .Last one I wrecked had teeth missing on the ring gear.
I never liked that steering system either. If it ain't working OK,it possibly had the wrong oil in it.
Also one or two of the gearbox gears are expensive to buy,I believe.
Like all machines,if it's been looked after & everything works OK,it may do what you need it to do.
Visit the Case Terratrac Crawlers site for good advice..
Personally,in that size,I'd go for a Mitsy BD2 or Komatsu D21...for a little extra money.
