Have a 62 955 CAT. Was sitting for several years. Went to start it and had problems from the gitgo. Since have had fuel injector pump rebuilt. Later found cracked head, replaced that. Sleeves were not worn was told rings probably coroded fast to pistons. re ringed and now have compression, heat, juice from batterys, still won't start. Last ditch will be to drain fuel and put in new, any other suggestions from a pro, I am not a mechanic.

Did you time the infector pump? Change the fuel. Replace fuel filters, empty and clean the primary fuel filter bowl. Replace spring and plunger in the fuel transfer pump. It is very easy to get the engine 180° out of time. Also check valve adjustment. With #1 piston at top dead center you can adjust Exhaust valves for 1 & 3 and intake for 1 & 2. Rotate engine 360° to get #4 at TDC and adjust exhaust valves for 2 & 4 and intake for 3 & 4.

Unless you had the front timing cover off its impossible to fit the injector pump off time as the drive is offset and only fits the one way,so timing is out of the equation, most likely thing is air in the system, drain the tank if you think there is any water in it,remove the valve, disconnect the line at the other end and blow it through, clean the sediment bowl, fill the tank as high you can,the more fuel in it the easier to bleed, see that there is a flow at the transfer pump, with a clean filter in open the bleeder valve,it should bleed under gravity, with bubble free fuel coming from the bleeder close it,crank the engine over and watch the fuel pressure gauge,it should start to move,if you got decompression use it,if the pressure starts to rise wind it over a bit more, then heat it and try to start, watch the exhaust it should be puffing smoke out,you need the batteries fully charged.

The timing on the D330 needs to be set using the 2M5219 gauge and a 4 to 5 inch depth micrometer down through the injector pump bore. The tang does not set the timing like on previous engines.
The correct setting with the pistons at top center is 4.2284 +/- 0.002 in.

Like penn says you need not worry about the timing if you just took the pump off from the accessory drive housing which is the normal way to do it,there is no need for gauges, just fit it back on it will only go on the one way and as its the same pump it will be ok.

Sorry guys,
You are correct, the tang does control the indexing of the timing. The gauge and mic are required when checking the timing dimensions to account for worn timing gears and lifters.
