Looking at ford 555c with shuttle and 4speed and extra-dig. It is the best looking used hoe I have ever seen. Any thoughs on comparing it with a JD 310d or e. I would like a deere but they are 7 to 10 thousand more and have twice the wear and tear.

The 555s were a good machine. They had a lot of capacity for their weight and power. They are put together like a car though, and you have to just about reverse the assembly line order to work on anything major. We had a late 555B, which was a C with different fenders, and I would rather run it than the new 580 Super M we had. I can't really say there were any real weak spots in ours.

By all means put a Ford in the fleet. You will find they are quite capable of doing EVERYTHING your beloved JD does at way less money.

Price some parts; same one, like a pin, bushing, hose, that kind of stuff. I did that before I bought my ford, the JD stuff was about triple the cost. Ford pin $50, JD wanted $140 for the same swing pivot.
