Beware Crawler Heaven HD-4 parts

Just wanted to let you guys know of a bad experience I had recently with "Crawler Heaven". This is the second order that I placed with them and although the first order took a long time to receive, I did at least finally get it. Not so this time.

So here is the story: 3-1/2 weeks ago I ordered some parts from Crawler Heaven for my Allis Chalmers HD-4 steering clutch. After two weeks and no parts I left a phone message. A week later I left another phone message plus an email. A couple of days later I left another phone message for a total of three phone messages and an email. Today they finally responded and said that "they were too busy to process my order, sorry". This is the worst customer service I have ever received from anyone and I will never do business with this flaky outfit again. It has cost me 3-1/2 weeks of frustration and lost time and now I have to start all over again with someone else. They didn't even seem to think this sort of business conduct was unusual. What a bunch of useless idiots. I would stay far, far away from these folks.

So, where can I get reasonably priced steering clutch parts for my Allis Chalmers HD-4? I already have new clutch discs but need a new pressure plate, throwout bearing, and clutch back-plate bearing.

You could try Value Parts in Zanesville, Ohio for new parts, I've gotten lots of parts from them for my JD 350s & they have always given me quick reasonably priced service. Or for used parts you might try Berga Farm Equipment Sales in New Matamoras, Ohio. He has bunches of parts for ag and construction equipment @ 740-865-3578. Keith

Yes, I know Ed has been sick and I do belive he is a good guy. I have talked to him (and his wife)at length and know his situation pretty well, and have allowed for that. And I know the city/county has been on his butt to relocate his salvage yard. But that does not excuse his lack of response to my many requests. I have to wonder, is he really running a business or just a hobby shop? I sympathize with his situation but he has been very lacking in up-front honesty. And while I am sympathetic to his circumstance, the lack of his honest communication really yanks my chain. I can buy parts elsewhere and will.

I believe he was quite sick last year too. If he's being pressured to move his yard and his health isn't the best, it would be easy for some customers to get lost in the shuffle. A persons health is more important than some parts for an old machine. He probably could have handled it better but you don't sound the least bit sympathic to his circumstances. Maybe you need to cut him some slack? Dave

Yes, he has been sick and I can appreciate that. I have talked to him on the phone several times and have been very supportive regarding his circumstance. It is not me that has lacked in understanding. I have left three phone messages and an email message, all very polite, explaining my concerns. When I finally got through I got a response that essentially said "f-off, we are too busy to help you because we are moving and have no time to deal with your order". This is after 3-1/2 weeks of trying to get any response at all. Now, I am a pretty easy going guy but that did not sit well with me. You do business with these people if you love them so much Dave. I have been every bit a gentleman in my dealings with Ed and his wife. He and she have not.

If your messages were anything like the one you gave me, maybe you got what you deserved. Most times people don't let on how bad things really are with complete strangers. Dave

rudy you are not alone in this, some time back i placed an order with c.h. and also waited several weeks had to call back and inquire.
well long story short in conversation with eddie he says to me " i really don't give a f@#$ about that order anyhow". good manners come just as easy as bad manners with a sick or healthy person. a bad atitude in business is not good for the business. al

Yeah, I've been trying to contact him for a couple years now. Same story, real dinkhead. If he's sick, maybe he better just give up the business.

I've never done business with the guy, don't know him at all. If I was to order something from him and got ignored or told I wasn't important I would be angry enough to post on here and anyplace else I could think of. If I have paid up front I'd contact the better business folks and the local and state police. I don't care how much pressure he's under or if he's sick. If he's still running a business then maybe he shouldn't be so worried about max profits and hire some help!

Rick

Rick. Right you are. He should hire some one to look after business matters so his reputation doesn"t get fouled. I feel bad about his health issues and wouldn"t wish any one to go through bad times. Business isn"t all that great now a days ,but if one is in business he or she should make every effort to keep the faith with their customers and keep promises made. JMHO LOU

He comes to these forums often and uses the name of "CH." He told me once that he can't use his business name on these forums, because he then gets deleted.

I went through something similar five years ago. He said he had rollers for my HD4, and I waited, and waited, and waited. I called several times and spoke to either him or a woman (Karen maybe??. Can't recall the name for sure; it WAS five years ago.

Main thing that really ticked me off is I had a chance to buy a parts-crawler locally that had good rollers on it. But, I passed on it because the people at Crawler Heaven said my rollers would be pulled "soon." Big mistake I still regret. Not many junker HD4s show up around here in this part of NY.

After waiting six months, and losing out on the chance to buy the parts-crawler, I gave up on CH. Found a guy in Mount Morris NY that had a full set of used Berco rollers. He delivered them part-way and left them in Lake George, Adirondacks, for me to pick up.

Later on, I found out I needed a steering-clutch pressure plate, rear stub axle, ring and pinion, and a cylinder head for the engine. Found all locally at MacFaddens in Sharon Springs and also at Marshals in PA. Marshals was much cheaper, even with the added cost of shipping. They even through in a free "bonus" set of HD bronze steering clutch disks.

The place we're talking about still has the Website running, advertising the business of crawler parts. If nobody is able to run the business, seems the Website ought to be either taken down - or a discaimer added about potential "long delays."

I know what it's like to be sick and not be able to do things "as usual." I adjust my life accordingly when necessary.

I never realized he had a long history of very poor service. Wouldn't expect that he'd stay in business very long treating customers like that. Dave

I'm not saying he has a bad or good history. That was my experience and I only tried to deal with him once. Once that is, over a period of 6 months. His place is close enough to me to drive there and back in a day, so I had preferred to stay "local." In his case, it didn't work.

I try to be good for my word when I promise to do something. If something prevents me from doing it, I'll warn those involved. I expect the same from others, although it seems to happen less and less as time goes on.

By the way, I sent him an email last month about parts for a 310G Case crawler. He DID answer me right way, telling me he didn't have the parts.

Whoa!!!!!!!! To defend this jerk"s outrageous behavior is unforgivable. If he is sick, then he shouldn"t be taking orders he cannot fulfill, and if he is moving his yard, then he has an upfront obligation to tell his customer that he will be unable to help for a specified period of time.
I will never buy anything from Crawler Heaven and, forewarned is forearmed. There is no excuse for lack of civility and honesty.

rudy2: What did you need for your AC? I may be able help with at least some of it. Shoot me an email directly with a list and I'll see what I can do. [email protected]

Too bad about Ed, he's really a good guy just tough to deal with. Sad part is, he's usually got what we need.

Hey Goerge........you get those case 1000 parts ok?
