Welding the swing bushing back together???

I got the backhoe boom and swing motor off the quick attach frame so I can weld the top swing bushing back together. The pin is about 2" dia. and goes into a replaceable hardened inner bushing with a groove for grease. I'm thinking that the inner bushing should be out and it will fit in after welding the main bushing back on. Does this sound right or should I have it in when welding? I think it might fall out from the welding heat anyway. Maybe put it in right after welding when everything is hot? Thanks in advance for your expertise. Dave

prior owner of my WainRoy left bushings in when welding, sure did a good job of making those bushings un-replaceable, had to take them out with double-cut carbide die grinder

leaving bushing in place would help your line up for welding, if you could turn some soft material to same size as bushing, you could grind it out after welding then might have to tack the bushing in place, just don't overdo it
