Hey just got a oc3 to play with and to cross a marsh to get fire wood.. Any in and out to this? Also looking at a hg to a little wider than the oc3. Are they just as good? any input ??
Thanks Steve

Late model HGs are identical to OC3s. There is no difference other then the decals or lettering.

Early HGs have smaller engines, no water pumps, less power, etc.

They all have three-speed Clark transaxles and are too fast in 1st gear to do any serious pushing. That's why Oliver offered an aux. trans kit for them, and many have made their own. The Oliver kit used a Ford Model A car transmission.

You don't need the aux trans for pulling a wagon. Crawlers need a low first gear for pushing dirt and heavy dirt moving. The HGs and OC3s were geared for row-crop farm work, and that's why they're so fast in first gear. Fine for pulling a wagon, and next to useless for pushing dirt.

But yes, kits are available and expensive. Zimmermans in PA sells them - usually they are OEM kits that he refurbishes.

I had an HG years ago. It must have been an early one because I think it had no water pump. I wonder if the early one was geared differently. It was fairly fast but I had a dozer on it and had no problem dozing. It would really scoot in third gear. I wish I had never sold it. It was my ATV before ATV's.
