John Deere 350B dozer

I found a 350B dozer the other day and the owner wants to sell it. It has 2600 hours, six-way blade and was owned by the DNR. He hadn’t used it in a couple of years we put a battery in it and with a little either it started right up. Everything works as it should; he said one of the clutches was weak. Once it started I let it warm up and check everything out. The left clutch was the bad one. He said make an offer. So what’s it worth? How much is it going to cost to fix? Are 350B hard to work on? What are the good, bad, and the ugly with the 350B?

It's all about condition. A 350B in good shape can easily sell for $7000. A 350B in rough shape can easily cost more then $7000 to repair.
That's why so many get parted out at scrapyards now instead of being fixed.

The low hours isn't surprising if it were really owned by a DNR. Typically, in the '60's, DNR's in the eastern U.S. bought these & worse (Oliver OC3's) for forest fire fighting. Seldom did they have experienced operators, and sometimes for years, no operators, & the machines sit idle til no one was left in the organization that knew anything about them, then they were declared surplus & auctioned off. When they did work it was only during the 6 mo. fire season & they pulled plows to make a fireline, so they were never overworked & mostly neglected. They never proved efficient in the eastern mountains because by the time they took them to a remote location the fire was either out or under control.

The repair of the steering clutch involves removal of the track and sprocket and the steering clutch hosuing. You can get the majority of clutch parts a friction and clutch parts house.

i've got a '70 350B...had new steering clutches, brake bands, seals, and new track chains put on by a local indy shop last year...total was just under 5k
Closest JD industrial dealer wanted about 2k more.

its not that complicated to work on if youre setup to handle heavy parts...forklift comes in real handy...in my younger days i woulda done work myself.
