Steering clutches TD

Hello All, I bet this has been discussed but I am gonna ask again, I am looking at buying a TD6 that runs but does not turn real well for $1500. What are your opinoins on the price and what is involved with fixing the steering clutches? Thank you in Advanced for any help!!!!!
 
I'm not sure what it takes to replace or repair steering clutches but i'm sure it's a fair bit of work and a fair bit of coin.
1500.00 is a real good price (it's worth more for scrap actually) so if your willing to spend some time and money on parts and gettin' her going again you would be getting a good price for her.
'Course when she's done she might be only worth what a machine that age is worth for resale value and not quite what you put into it.

Guess can't make money repairing these old machines but if it's for you, or your enjoyment give 'er hell!
 
Case450, Thanks for your input. I do want this for my own play toy not to make money as I do agree with you about putting more money in it than it is worth.
 
I have been looking in the archives and am not real clear... it there any internal adjustment or is it all external? Thanks.
 


the stering cluch adjustement are external by the turnbuckles and the brake are internal under the housing by the inspection cover.
 
Clutches and brakes on the TD-6 actually aren't hard to do, much easier than on a JD.
Pull the seat, Fuel tank, and the cover plate under it, and it's all there, no need to remove a track to get to the drums.
There is a set of tools you'll need to remove the clutch drum, the book (you do have a book?) shows how to make them. Parts are no problem.
It cost us $350 to do both brakes and the right side clutch on our TD-9.

The Guys there can lead you step by step thru the process.
