Mounting and dismounting a quick attach hoe?

I want to take the backhoe of my Cat so I can haul some clay with loader. I put a block under in so it doesn't go too low to be able to hook the lines together. I've had it off before and it's easier to take off than put back on. The problem I have is that I can usually connect one hyd. coupler and the other one is always a pain to connect, like it still has pressure on it. I have new couplers. Not Cat but good couplers. What is the proper procedure for mounting and dismounting a quick attach hoe on a crawler? I don't have a manual for the hoe but since I think they're all pretty similar(ie./ JD, Cat etc) I was hoping one of you guys on here would no the easiest way to get the hyd. couplers together and/or relief the hyd. pressure. I thought maybe if I loosen the hyd. filler cap to let off the tank pressure would help but I still think there's a simpler way to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Yes. The original hyd. quick couplers were getting grooves in them from the balls in the female half of the coupler so I changed them with some Italian made couplers from a good hyd. supplier. Cat replacement couplers were an extremely outragious price. Something like $268 just for one female coupler! The ones I have now are a standard size as well. I did have the same problem with the original Cat couplers though. I think I'm just missing a step in order to release all the pressure. I move the control valves after shutting the machine off to try to help but still have to fight with them to get both of them together. Dave

Working all your controls with the machine turned off and still hooked up should do it . Somtimes ya have to crack a line to let a little fluid out . If your outriggers or the boom is holding it up it will be under pressure till it bottoms out I`d say .
