Bobcat hydraulic oil

My 843 Bobcat got a significant amount of water in the hydraulic oil. I am 250 miles from a Bobcat dealer so I am not going to be able to use their oil. NAPA sells a hydraulic oil called AW32, and they say others use it in Bobcat hydraulic systems. If forced to choose, should I use motor oil(recommended in the owners manual) or this AW32? Also, any advise on a process to get the contaminated oil out of the system would be appreciated.

You will need to make sure your oil of choice has anti-foaming properties. I always go a step above the base cheap bucket of oil. Look for an oil labeled "tractor hydraulic" or "transmission hydraulic" these should be your better grade of oil.

Water in a hydraulic system especially one with hydrostatic drive is very, very bad. There is no good way to get the contaminated oil out of the system, it will be expensive but I would change it several times.

My skid steer calls for 10w-30 motor oil with a SE/CD classification. If you go with the oil recommended in the manual, you can't go wrong. My machine isn't a Bobcat but many machines have gone to a common oil for the whole machine. Unless a machine, like a tractor, calls for a special tractor fluid, I'd use what the book says. Dave

If the manual says to use motor oil, which is common, use motor oil. It's probably cheaper anyway. You could rinse the tank out with varsol or perhaps diesel but don't run the system. After the new oil is in and the machine has warmed up, the last of the moisture will get evaporated and the filter will catch some. Put a new filter on with the new oil. That's why they say to always let an engine warm up before you shut it off. It gets rid of condensation that comes from sitting. Dave
