I was using my Bobcat 843B, about a 1990 model, and the tilt and lift arms stopped working. The arms will go up but not down. The tilt goes all the way forward but not back. I stop the engine and press the foot lever to get the lift arms to drop. I added about 1 1/2 qts of hyd oil but no improvement. I noticed the when raising the lift arms they do not go up as smooth as normal. I think at least once they rose up when I was pushing the peddle in the down direction.

I removed the main control valve for the arms and bucket. I took it to Bobcat for what they call a reseal kit. They said they found nothing that stuck out as a problem. After putting it back into place EVERY THING WORKS again. What a job disconnecting and reconnecting but at least it works again. Not sure what was done to fix it but visually they found nothing wrong.

Does your Bobcat have the self-leveling bucket valve inside the back door? If so that is most likely your problem, I've never looked inside one to see what actually goes wrong with them I've always by-passed them. In case you are not familiar with the function of this valve when you lift the boom arms this valve automatically diverts some of the oil to the bucket cylinder to keep it relatively level as the boom goes up.

I took out the unloading valve. There was some dirt attached, no luck after cleaning. I am going to make a tool to remove the other three sections on this block, they have the blade type plugs. Thanks.

This would be a strange thing to happen to your machine but I have seen when a cyl rod only wants to extend reguardless of the movement of the controls the piston has come loose from or fallen off of the rod.
Later Bob
