Jd 350 0il gauge

My oil gauge has quit. Power to the gauge and when I ground out the other side still no reading.
Over $200 used, $600 new! Does anyone know what is so special apart this gauge?
Thanks
Bruc

The gauges JD uses now are often VDO brand which are good gauges, resist moisture and vibration better than most, and carry a premium price to begin with and then the JD markup. There is no reason you can't replace it with a different brand gauge. Looks will be a bit different and gauge life maybe shorter. If you do and stay with an electric gauge, I suggest you replace the gauge and sender as a matched set. If you change it to a mechanical gauge I would recommend using a good hose to supply the gauge, not the nylon/poly line in some gauge kits. I have picked up some NOS Stewart Warner gauges on eBay at times. That's what I replaced the original VDO gauge in my dozer with after a quote of about $250 for new a few years ago.
