JD300 Backhoe Leaking Help

My backhoe is leaking hydraulic fluid from the cylinder nearest the bucket. Picture shows where its leaking. I have someone that is familiar
with taking these apart and able to do the fix but I went to the JD dealer and they said there are no aftermarket rebuild kits or gaskets
available for this cylinder. They said my only option from them is buying a replacement cylinder for $2500. Any help on where I can get a new
seal for this? Thanks for any help!!

Take that cylinder off and take it to any local hydraulic repair shop to get it repacked. Most good shops have individual packings and seals to rebuild most any cylinder. Just because Deere doesn't service that cylinder, doesn't mean it can't be rebuilt at a reasonable cost. Probably much less than a new cylinder.

As Roy posted a good hydraulic shop should be able to match things up. Your friend could tear it down and you could take the old parts to a hydraulic shop, if you want to try that.

Did you go to a JD construction equipment dealer? I believe that may be a model 92 backhoe, it's not a 300, nor will it be found in the 300 loader parts catalog, it has its own. The latest bucket cylinder kit part number in the 92 parts catalog is RE18751, available from JD for about $150, from what I see. I can not say for certain it is a 92, look it over for a tag and compare things on yours with the parts catalog at the link below.

Give Baum Hydraulics in Omaha a call, they specialize in such things and have many kits already cross-referenced to John Deere part numbers or they can make one up to match what you have.

Due your self a big favor, take it to a hydraulic shop and have them fix it for you. Why, here are the reasons, 1, you will not be able to get the nut off the rod, 2, the old seals are no longer available and the new seals are some sort of neoprene with several ribs around the outside, 3, they probably will need to machine the entrance to the barrel to get the seal to slide in so as not to peel off the outer edge of the seal, 4, to get it back together the barrel and the rod must be perfectly level and plumb.
As they say been their/ done that 4 weeks ago working on a JD 410 backhoe. Ended up buying a second set of seals and paid the shop to fix it.
