Hey all,
I was thinking the other day about my Ford 753 backhoe and wondered if it was possible to cut some expenses fixing it? Mine has a 4" swing cylinder I need to replace and I would like to replace it with a 3 1/2" Am I just looking for trouble trying to save 800 bucks? After checking Mine is a 13' and the one I want to use is for a 750 10'

You are just looking to cause a problem by doing that, the cylinders oppose each other so need to be the same size. Is your cylinder so bad it can't be rebuilt?

Well the problem is one of the cylinders is missing, can't be found. I can't afford to put out the 1300 for new one, so I was going to try to cut price by 800. Thanks for your input.

Have you checked with All States Ag Parts? Wengers of Myerstown?

I have 755 series backhoe. 15ft I think I am in Texas so that mite be problem. Have shipped some parts up in that part of country.

Thank You Sir, I would be interested as long as it is a 4" cylindar? If you want email me at silvershadow563 at gmail.

Thank you Sir, I am going by the specs for the tractor but it looks bigger than 4" I'll go down and double check for sure and let you know.

I went back and looked at the tag on the backhoe and it states Mod # is 19-389 and ser# is RII2779 which should make it a 13' 753 backhoe with 4" swing cylinders?? Well when I went and took measurements the one on it is 5" Diameter. But I cannot find any reference to a 5" cylinder for backhoe even through NH dealer.

So I am guessing that it is the inside dia. and not the outer?? I am thinking then, they are made of 1/4" steel and that would make it a 4 1/2 cylinder?[/img:95ac582975]

Shaun Wallace Ok, how much would you want for both of them?

It will work just not as powerful. I have
a 480E Case backhoe. The swing cylinders
are smaller than a 580. So is faster and
not as powerful. But swing doesn't need to
be but just powerful enough to swing
uphill a little. Truthfully I doubt you
will notice it.

They are teed together won't make any
difference. One is pushing one pulling. So
not the same anyway. Because one has the
shaft volume less.

Last I knew, Lets say a Ford 4500 or 550 backhoe with swing chain set-up uses a single high pressure hose on each cylinder and a bleed-off at the
rear of the cylinder. These cylinders just sit into pockets with only the tightness of the swing chain holding them in place. I've seen the
pockets crack apart enough that the boss where the hydraulic hose wears thru the welded nipple on the cylinder barrel and start a leak there.
Prompting a weld repair to the cylinder barrel nipple. But the pocket also needs to be repaired so the cylinder doesn't go too far into the
pocket again and causing the rub thru like before. There is a cushion valve mounted to the X member inside the backhoe main frame. There are
bleeders on it to remove air from the cylinders when starting operation with dry cylinders. These cylinders are made for these backhoes only and
another cylinder whether double acting or single acting of different diameters or lengths will not work. No pin holds these cylinders into the
pockets. They just bottom out and stop.

Yes I have seen that set up on my 753, But I know too that the 750 and 755 all have the same cylinder set up as well.
