I pulled the king pins on the front axle of my Case 580SM 4WD Backhoe to replace the U Joints.
While I have the king pins out to remove the steering knuckles and get access to the axles and U Joints I decided to replace the king pin bushings.
The upper one looks lie a straight bushing pressed a blind bore in the ear on the end of the axle. It feels like there is a gap at the bottom of the bushing that I should be able to get an internal puller in.
The lower bushing is a 2 piece spherical arrangement with one half pressed inside the bore in the ear on the axle housing. The other mating piece is pressed onto the lower king pin. I dont feel any gap at the top of the internal bushing in the axle to be able to get it out with a puller - it is a blind bore so cant drive it out from the top.
Any suggestions on the best way to remove it ???
