Hi everyone.
Been working on a Gas start Diesel engine and recently
rebuilt the carb. Tractor would run on gas side before
rebuild but had to be on full choke. After rebuild, tractor
will not idle up and is smoking black pretty heavily. Runs
at a very low rpm. Took carb back off to check mixing
valve and it is set at 4/32 or just a little shy. What did I
miss. Any help would be appreciated. Not much literature
floating around on these carbs.

Thanks

It would have to be the float or needle/seat. There are specific instructions in the Diesel engine manual on how to hook up a gas tank 6 feet higher than the inlet of the carb, and with the top of the carburetor removed, measure the actual level of the fuel in the bowl.
It has you set the float by measuring the float directly, but also measuring the actual fuel level. There isnt much to these carbs.

On mine, I had to drill and sleeve one side of the bore for the choke shaft due to the rather severe wear. Other than that a new float to replace the old crumbling one and a kit from McDonald carb and its good to go.
