Case 310 sprocket nut torque

Hey guys, I have a '58 Case 310 that has a loose sprocket nut.. Well I should say the sprocket is loose, but the nut still seams tight. It almost seems like the spacer that's on the backside wore down because
there is space between the backside of the nut and front of the sprocket. Either way I want to try to torque the nut down first before I commit to disassembly where I will likely install a new sprocket final
drive shaft and seals and inspect the sprocket for damage to its splines as well. I'm certainly aware of the problems these machines can have if over the course of their use this nut has not been monitored and
kept properly torqued.

I believe the torque I remember reading somewhere on here was something like 1500 ft.lbs. is that correct?

It is more than likely the trouble is the sprocket is loose on the spline and all you can do now is a temporary repair to get you going, remove the nut, push the sprocket in as far as you can using a spacer behind the nut, remove the nut and spacer and see if the shaft spline is proud of the sprocket,if it's is go to a bearing shop and buy a spacer the same diameter as the shaft spline and an 1/8 thicker than the amount the spline is proud of the sprocket, clean all oil from the threads of the nut and shaft with gas and blow dry them, use a strong loctite and put the nut on,as it is unlikely you will have a torque wrench that goes to what is needed, tighten the nut up with a 4 or 5 foot cheater bar as tight as you can get it,see how it goes, sometime it only last a week others I have know to last years, the real answer is replace both shaft and sprocket but it's worth a try and one will know no difference driving it.

That's what I figured. All the splines still bite and it moves drives just fine, but if you push hard enough you can get the sprocket to move just a bit, so I'm sure at this point there is mild damage to the
sprocket and I know for a fact that if I leave it then it will get way worse. I'll check it out further. Thanks!
