D4 track chain

I would like to put a set of new old stock ITM chains on my D4 7U. The chains measure up ok but are a link short each. The part number on one side is ITM 104-K-2 L35. I contacted ITM and they said they never made such a thing. So does anyone know if any other links would be compatible? thanks in advance.

If you have the parts book for the 7U get the number of the left and right link and try your Cat dealer,I think all after market parts were made to OM specs, you could also try Burco and any other under carriage supplier that may be near you, quote the Cat numbers to them and they can cross reference them for you.

Kevin find you another ITM dealer and leave off the L35 , these young new parts folks are not to savvy. If they cannot find it in a computer they give up. You will need two left , two right , two pins and two bushings.

And a track press!

Kevin he just forwarded "jm"s post, on modern view it is just above. and added the info about a track press.

If I was in your neck of the woods and you brought your track chain and the two extra link to me to add I would probably charge you an hour a side, even though I got two bench mounted track presses and another couple of portable ones I doubt if either would be used, when an extra link is added it is usually another master link that is used as this saves having to cut the bushes, the pin used is also a master pin, even all the pins might look similar the master pins are not,the part of the pin that fits in the link boss is the same size as all the other pins but the rest of the pin is a shade smaller to allow it to pass through the link freely after the first 1 1/4" it then will have to be driven to get it in to the other link,we use what we call a drift, piece of iron bar with a handle welded to it so a second person can hold it on the pin so you can hit it with a 14 LB hammer, you do not hit the pin cos that can cause it to swell and make it too big for the hole,it is also dangerous because it can splinter so eye protection should be used,if you have a track press by all means use it,if you have not I doubt when you find out the price if you will be buying one but you may be able to hire one or get a heavy equipment man to do the job for you.
