Go to the link below at Machinery Trader, there are several 4.236T engines listed for sale you did not state where you are,I also looked on Diesel Engine trader there are only a few on there which are reconditioned not very cheap at $9020,as a matter of interest why do you need a whole engine as I have done in frame overhauls on JCB's is the crank toast or is the block junked,a lot of MF stuff had that engine as well so a tractor salvage yard may have one, when you go to the link if a smaller page is asking your location close it and go down near the bottom for the 4.236T engines.

4.236T Engine

Laziness. I'm in md . Brother in law farms in sax . Said to check with p v Dobson or digger doctor. Over here turbo stress blocks are rare. I use the machine daily and thought switching out would be faster. When I rebuild by the time wait for head redone and other miscellaneous parts couple months go by before would have it together. Some other piece farm equipment brakes that have to fix right away. Can't find replacement over here unless go with non turbo. Would non turbo have enough power. Thanks for help

Forgot to tell problem overheating blows radiator cap off. Have to keep refilling and bleeding coolant system plus machine has always ben gutless going down road. It's 4wd and 17 ft extra dig so maybe that's to be expected. Ran a Terex and it would get down the road pretty quick. We run the machine down the road between farms and have hills

I'm in the repair business in the UK,JCB are very common here been home grown, any overheating I had with that model were usually a blocked radiator, usually we took the front grille off and the oil cooler and power washed the outside of the rad,I am not saying that I never seen a thermostat fail or a head gasket go but it was very rare, about the road speed,a backhoe is the equivalent of a fully laden truck and they will slow up on hills and long pulls,if the machine will spin the wheels in first gear while loading the front bucket that is about as good as it gets, the fuel system likes to be kept clean, there is a gauze filter in the feed pump that needs regular cleaning as it is the first after the tank and if it gets restricted there is a big loss of power,I would try clean the rad as you will have to clean it anyway and if the engine is not blowing out too much back pressure maybe you can get another while out of it.

Pressure washed like you said . Sitting still high idle can?t get to over heat checking all points with temp gun. Not sure where Feul filter your talking about is is it in lift pump? We?ve Ben blowing rad out with air but guess that wasn?t good enough. Yhanks

The bottom of the rad should be about 10° cooler than the top if the rad if it's doing it's job properly, the rad can be blocked internally and may need back flushing,it is worth removing the thermostat and trying it without for a test, the gauze filter is under the top of the feed pump lid,one single screw in the middle, the pump is located under the turbo, fan belt and fan ok too.

Got new fan belt going to put on. Put on new upper hose old one
was soft and leaking. Oil filter oil cooler was leaking oil into coolant
years ago and we changed it but not the hoses. Also heater box was
leaking bypassed it for now . Radiator reading 90. Reading 140 at
head at injectors. Block 140 to 170. Will check top and bottom of
radiator. Good idea thanks again

If oil leaked into the coolant its a good chance that the rad could be restricted internally, with the bottom hose off jam a garden hose in the adapter of the rad with a rag, take off the cap and turn on the hose and see what comes out,you may even have to have the rad off and cleaned,it is most important that the inside is clean as well as the outside,as I said there should be a 10° differ between the top and bottom heat of the rad with the engine running at about 1500rpm or so,also check the thermostat.

Sorry ran into problems putting factory belt on alternator must be
different than original. Didn't get it back together work full time job
than have farm chores before I can work on in evenings. There is
also a water separator on frame before lift pump took picture of
those. Also it was years ago we had oil problem . But like you say
wouldn't hurt to flush . Or maybe it's another filter? I'll try to order
takes week or so to get parts and the filter for inside the lift pump.

Pictures of filters will have to order plus thermostat and gasket

Yes that is a water separator I had forgot to mention it,I see so many different machines it hard to remember details of them all,it needs regular cleaning like the feed pump that shown in your picture, also the fuel filter/s on the other side.

Jcb said no screen in lift pump when tried to order . Took apart and
you were right and it was dirty after cleaning it really made the
machine run better. Cleaned radiator didn't seem bad . Machine ran
cool . 30 degree difference top to bottom. When roaded machine
ran with a lot more power. But started spitting water out overflow
tube. Hoping I just didn't fill enough and thermostat hadn't opened
yet. Will try to check out some more later. Thanks again

The cooling is working great, with 30° differ I would say the thermostat is opening as it should,if the engine is running fairly good and not burning a lot of oil,not puffing excessively out the engine breather,(there is always a little bit) starts fairly easy it will last a long time, the one probable cause now left is a little compression is leaking into the coolant and if so the head gasket would be suspect,if it does not spit out large amounts and there is no overheating it could last for ages,it really surprised me the money people are looking for engines and there is probably tax and shipping to be added too.
Good luck

Yeah lotta money for a turbo engine. I guess I'll be pulling the headin
the future. I've ben chasing that no power for awhile sent out
injectors tried changing timing . Changed filters etc. it's like a shop
foreman told me 30 years ago kiss Keep it simple stupid. My wife's
family's in saxmundham if we get over there in future owe you and
yours a dinner thank you for all the help
