D6 9U oil leak

Two questions I suppose. I have a 9U wet clutch that loses a lot of oil while running, run it all day, gallons of oil. This oil is finding its way to the clutch where it loses it and blows it out while running.

I assume this is the engine rear main seal gone?

What is most efficient way to fix? Pull trans?

any other advice APPRECIATED.

The D318 engine in the 9U does not have a rear main seal. It depends on a reverse thread part of the rear journal to pull oil back into the engine. Severe main bearing wear opens up the clearances that lead to that problem.

It has a typical Cat breather on the right side of the engine near the oil fill tube. It has the air holes on the bottom so yes--they may be plugged from old oil vapors--they are a maintenance item should be cleaned periodically

Yes a blocked breather could cause the oil to leak and as OM said worn mains, the most likely cause is that the oil throwing grooves on the crank are clogged up with carbon,as the carbon builds up the throw is not as good as it needs to be and the oil will leak.
