D6C Radiator flush and transmission filter

Just recently upgraded to a 1974 D6C powershift to use on the farm for clearing and cleaning up(we had a D7 17a cable control previously). Very well taken care of by previous owner. Was gonna change the filters etc and flush the radiator. Do you drain the radiator from the hole kinda under the petcock or the hole on the side? The one on the side is mostly blocked by what looks like an oil line running under the radiator towards the back. Cant see it or get to it very good either way. Also is the transmission filter under the seat or under the floorboard, and Ive seen people talk about a wirescreen that a person needs to check. Where is it located? I bought a service manual, but it doesn't help out much with this. Would an operator's manual do a better job showing? I was told I should replace water filter, but CAT acted like there wasn't one. Any help on what I should check and where would be appreciated! Lol! Had a new direct start 3306 engine put in it in 2001 by the way.

The magnetic strainer is near the trans filter and is identified by a square cover held down with four nuts. The radiator drain cock should be cleanly accessible through a 1"hole in the left side of the crankcase guard, near the front. It will require either a 9/16" socket, or a length of 3/8" black pipe with a slot cut in the end, in case the drain has a T-handle instead of a hex. If you can't get near it for some reason, you should drop the crankcase guard and see what's wrong. Sounds like the oil cooler lines got mangled somehow. D6Cs did not come from the factory with water filters as an option. You are correct, their denial of the water filter system is puzzling, even though filter heads and filters can be had through service parts. The publication you want is the lubrication guide. Cat always had impeccable literature, but their data is broken down into a few specific sections. But once you find it, there will be no further question as to the procedure.
