Komatsu PC220 LC question

Hey guys, just bought a new to me excavator. Checking over the fluids and of course some things are low. The turntable reservoir is low and I was wondering what goes in there. Is it 90 at gear oil or what? Found the hydraulic tank fill after I unbolted a cover. Is there any other reservoirs I need to check besides hydraulic, engine, and coolant? Hoping to get on it tomorrow and pull some stumps!

If you can't see it on the stick, drain it the rest of the way and make sure there's no water in it. I have ATF in mine.

You probably missed the most important one short of engine oil. Check both FINAL DRIVE housings, water in the fluid means drain it. If the machine has been operated in swamps more than likely will have water in the finals.

Those are a powerful machine for their size. One thing to look at,and keep looking at,are the two ears that hold the base of the boom. Those machines have a lot of swing power, and when guys find how much they can do with the swing, they do it.Instead of just side-bucketing a little dirt into a hole you just dug a stump out of,you can actually scrape and tear the ground off going sideways with the bucket. That is a tremendous amount of force on those two ears.A farmer here in town was doing what he called the swishy-swashy with the bucket, filling in stump holes, and the boom tried to visit him in the cab.I think there are three layers of steel making up the ears, and they start off with a small crack,so if you keep an eye on it you can catch it in plenty of time.

A page from my Shell book might come in handy for you as it states what oil and how much.

Thanks for all the information. Put some 30 at in the swing gear and I was able to run her. Man she sure has some power. I noticed the boom cylinders were leaking. Ordered new kits for them and an a.c. belt. Sure gets warm in that cab. Maybe the a.c. will work! Thanks again Brandon

You need to make sure what type cylinder gland cap you have,if you got the type with one single metallic bushing in it make sure you replace that bushing,I don't think that bushing comes in the kit it has to be ordered separate, that bushing carries the rod and when it's worn the seal will leak again after a few weeks if it's not replaced, the other type is two fibre split rings that do come in the kit,you will need a torque multipliers for the piston nut, this job is often best left to an experienced heavy equipment mechanic or the dealer.
Good luck
AJ
