Hercules diesel engine?

Any of you guys know anything about the hercules three cylinder diesel engines? Were they reliable? Did they actually put these into the crawlers?

Yes, I have an Oliver crawler with a three-cylinder Hercules diesel. Rugged enough engine but finding parts is near impossible.

Yeah I wondered about the parts. There is one on Ebay right now with a bad pump....and he wants about a thousand for it. I've got an oc3 that I have been toying with the idea of an engine swap....probably be better off just rebuilding the gas hercules that is in it. The diesels just seem better for starting and running when only used ocassionally...

That four cylinder gas engine in the OC3 is not easy to find parts for either, but still easier then for the 3 cylinder gas and diesel engines used in the OC4.

John, A young fella in Westford repowered his JD skid steer with a diesel. Original engine was long gone and previous owner had a Chevette 4 cylinder gas that was crude looking but did work. Mel Force in Worcester made an adapter for him as the diesel was off a refrigeration unit on the front of a trailer. Looks good and I need to get some pics of it. Just thought it might work on a HG or OC3.

Hmmm I wouldn't learning more about this. Seems there are usually a few small diesels from refers for sale on craigslist or Ebay.

Frank I sell a lot of KUBOTA engines, but you be aware that most of those refer pull outs are wore out because they run long hours. I have seen folks buy them but when it came time for a rebuild the engine had already been bored to its limit. All they had was a wore out block.
