Starting TD9

Facts: Cousins Brought My Uncles 1952 TD9 home not running
Last time I started was in 1969
Forgot the sequence and levers
His Original Manual is missing
Got one 12 volt battery when it arrived and his son-in-law and I both know it had 4
six volts ( was it 12 volt or 24 volt start positive or negative ground)
They say used 3 or 4 years ago

I need someone to walk me through the levers and sequence to crank. I know it involves starting on gas with gas intake valves working. Turning diesel side on by opening something and switching to diesel intake valves and turning gas engine off. He always returned to gas when shutting down. I am unsure of the levers as I have slept since 1969. We would love to get it running.

It should be 12 volt , like i said SHOULD BE . To start first make sure you starting tank is full then make sure the shutoff is on and you have gas flow. , Next ya need spark , here since i can not see if it hads a dist. or a mag . For it to have spark first you have to PULL the lever for decompression and this inturn flips a switch in the intake manifold to allow the mag or dist to make spark at the plugs . with the throttle in the closed possession and making sure you have diesel fuel in the main tank and the valve is on fuel at the filters and at the pump , Now ya pull the choke rod and crank the engine . Once it is running on gas and running smooth you ease the choke in and let it set there and run on gas for a while . The time it must run on the gas side depends on the weather , if it is warm outside a min or two should be enough , if cold then five or more may be required before switching to the diesel side . To switch you start to open the throttle a bit and as you start to see smoke that could be white or gray you then shove the decompression or switching lever into the run. NOw she may purr like a kitten right off and she may spit and sputter fart belch smoke and ever seen them back fire , allow it to run at about a 1/4 throttle for a while to start to warm up say five min. or so on a warm day and 10-15 on a cold day . Never stall one when hot if you can not get it running right away , always make sure that the starting tank has gas in it . When your done for the day DO NOT JUST SHUT IT DOWN , park it and allow it to ideal till the temp gauge is down in the bottom part of the COLD zone , Then shut it down on the diesel side and DO NOT switch back over to the gas side as when you do this you are putting heat back into the head you have just spent time cooling down . I do believe i have knowledge on these as i have been running them since the early sixtys and learned from the OLD guys that ran them when they were new.

Does it have positive or negative ground. Okay on the left firewall a lever to control decompression. Up or down to start on gas. I think the small t handle on the right fire wall is just to engage the starter and the choke is there to.

Org. it was positive I H did not go neg. ground till like 1958 when they came out with the new line of tractors starting with the 460-560 line . sorry i sshould have told you before on this . Sucks getting old.
