John Deere 310 speed

I just picked up a John Deere 310 cheap enough from a neighbors farm sale I didn't ask too many questions. The transmission range shifter seems pretty well not interested in moving. It's really really really slow. Just over walking speed at full throttle in 4th. Is that normal for high range or low range? It doesn't look to have enough room to shift down to what would be II range if it isn't, but my goodness she's slow. It's my first backhoe so I just didn't know which way I should try and push the lever.

For a 310 john deere sounds about right in fourth gear low side just above a fast walk, trust me I know own one and it is still out working every day. One of the best hoes that john deere made.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you saying the speed is slow or it is hard to shift.

If it is like my 410 you have two gear shifters. One for Park and ranges 1 and 2. The other for gears 1-4. Forward and reverse are via the reverser on the steering column. Travel speed in range 1, gear 4 would be slightly faster than walking speed. Reverse is slightly faster than forward.

The shifter should easily shift between ranges.
