Our 1939 D4 (7J190W) steering clutch levers
work back and forth very tough. There are
covers over the pivot points, and they
haven't been oiled as long as I've been
around it. How are they to be lubricated?

Thank you for any help!

Original arrangement had a graphite packing material between the inner and outer covers. Lever pivots were not lubed and used some sort of fabric lined bearing that didn't require lube. Covers would be tough to fabricate due to the curved shape. I have bored out the pivot brackets and replaced those early bearings with nylon lined steel shell housing type bearings. Pivot shafts can be made from common round stock.
