case 310g brakes

I lost all my account and passwords because I have not been here in a long time but how have a new one any way I have just got myself a great little case 310g dozer that needed brakes, I have replaced them, used the right oil (gl1) and still don't have the brakes that it should have. Brake lever clearance is 1/8 at outside rod. the drums looked good and did have enough brakes on left side to steer before the new ones were installed. should I have soaked the bands in oil before installing them I am at a loss. Thanks for any help anyone could offer.

larry you do know it will not completely stop a side. just holds is back some as there is no steering clutches.

I do understand that
And while I had the rear cover off I looked at the gears and they looked good, also there was not any metal in the rear housing at all everything was clean

Do a test, but a block under the drawbar and lift the tracks off the ground, stick something in one sprocket to jam it,start the engine.keep it on low idle and take up the drive gently, the jammed side should stay still and the other side drive,if the jammed side is trying to drive and bogging down the engine the diff has an issue,do not force it as you could do damage, you will have to see what's wrong inside the diff.

Ok that takes the diff out of the equation, the only thing that I can think of the brakes are not holding, have a good look at the linkage to see that it is putting the brake on,ie,a key could be sheared and not turning the camshaft.

I would have to agree with AJ. Just sounds as though you have a linkage problem or maybe you have good brakes as they will not completely stop your machine as long as its in gear from what I understand. They are different from other dozers. I have a case 310d. Put new brake shoes in it. They will slow one side down so it will turn but not as sharp as other dozers which in some cases is better as you don't tear up your grass so bad. It sounds like everything else is okay as far as the rear end so that's a positive thing. let us know what you find.

I agree with what you are saying. that's why I am at a loss over this, if I jack both tracks off the ground and run the tractor I can slow down the tacks on both sides with the brakes, have checked all rod and cams they are ok and do move with levers. I didn't soak the bands before installing them, should that have been done. is it possible I have the wrong brake material on the bands. they where aftermarket but did have the wright part # on them

I am going to take the bands back out and see what kind or how much contact I have between drum and bands, I feel the problem is in the bands just have to see after I take them back out.does any one have a source for factory bands.
