Are Clark skidders 12v or 24v? The reason I ask is that I have a chance to buy one that just had a starter replaced. The owner replaced it with a 12v but I was under the impression that these were 24v.Would this be the reason it won't start?

should be 12 volt. Should have 2 strong batteries on it. Will barely start in good weather with one strong battery, will not start anytime with 2 weak batteries.

Clarke make lots of skidders, what model is yours and what engine does it have.

The 667 with the Cummins V6 is 12 volt, its got 2 12 volt batteries connected parallel, negative ground, make sure all the connections are clean, for a test connect the ground direct so its by passing the isolator switch, the Cummins with the PT fuel system likes a good fast spin over to build up fuel pressure, hold your fingertips on the on/off solenoid on the fuel pump and get a second person to turn the key on and off,you will feel the solenoid jump if it is working,if you can't feel it jump check the connection and the feed for power,it should be hot when the key is on,you can put the pump to manual by screwing in the thumb screw beside the connection, try those few things and see how you fare.
